Tinubu Back at Work, Ready for Decisions That Will Impact Nigerians — Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has resumed official duties and is ready to take further decisions aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians.

Shettima spoke on Saturday after meeting with the President at his residence in Lagos, following Tinubu’s return from a four-week vacation in Europe.

The Vice President said Tinubu remained in regular communication with members of his administration throughout his time abroad and received updates on developments across the country.

“We had been in regular contact throughout his sojourn abroad. Advances in science and technology have made it possible to really have impactful leadership wherever one might find himself,” Shettima said.

According to him, the President spoke with members of his team almost every other day and was kept abreast of developments across the country.

“We are happy he’s back on the beat. As usual, impactful decision-making that will touch the lives of the Nigerian people is absolutely essential,” he added.

Shettima appealed to Nigerians to remain patient with the administration, noting that Tinubu inherited an economy under significant pressure and had taken difficult decisions aimed at stabilising it.

He cited the removal of the petrol subsidy and the reform of the multiple exchange-rate system as some of the major decisions taken by the administration.

The Vice President also said the Federal Government was implementing programmes designed to cushion the effects of economic hardship on citizens.

“In the next couple of weeks, we are going to launch e-logistics in the Northeast. We are going to run 10,600 electric tricycles to ease the pains of the people in the Northeast, and 300 buses and taxis, e-taxis,” he said.

Shettima further highlighted the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as a major intervention aimed at helping students from disadvantaged backgrounds gain access to higher education.

He assured Nigerians that the government was aware of the economic difficulties facing citizens and was working on additional measures to alleviate the situation.

“The President has empathy, a lot of empathy for the common man. Politics is in the air, but we will combine politics and governance,” Shettima said.
