2027: Southern Kaduna Muslim Youth Foundation Demands Fair Political Representation

The Southern Kaduna Muslim Youth Foundation (MYFOSKA) has urged political parties, governorship candidates and other stakeholders to engage all religious and ethnic groups fairly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group said inclusive politics remained essential for sustaining peace, democratic stability and electoral success in Southern Kaduna, warning against any political approach that sidelines any constituency.

In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Dr K. Muhammed, MYFOSKA said its position followed the emergence of deputy governorship candidates by major political parties in Kaduna State and the public debate that followed.

The group clarified that its concern was not about the absence of Southern Kaduna in the office of the deputy governor, noting that the incumbent Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, is from Sanga Local Government Area in Southern Kaduna.

Rather, it said the issue was religious inclusion and equal political opportunity, stressing that Southern Kaduna’s Muslim community remained a significant political constituency that should not be overlooked.

MYFOSKA noted that all three major political parties had nominated Christian deputy governorship candidates, saying that while parties were constitutionally free to choose their candidates, voters also had the democratic right to decide where to invest their support.

“Electoral support should never be presumed; it must be earned through fairness, inclusion, mutual respect and meaningful engagement with all constituencies,” the statement said.

The group also cautioned against inflammatory statements and unverified demographic claims capable of heightening religious or ethnic tension, urging politicians to avoid actions that could undermine the peace built over the years.

It called on members of the Southern Kaduna Muslim Ummah to remain peaceful and law-abiding while continuing to promote dialogue and coexistence across the region.
