Police repel herdsmen attack in Benue, rescue abducted woman

The Benue State Police Command has repelled an attack by suspected armed herders in Awanse community, Kwande Local Government Area of the state, rescuing an abducted woman unhurt. According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, the incident occurred on February 6, 2026 at about 12:40 pm, when police operatives on confidence-building patrol across Kwande LGA received a distress report that armed herders had invaded the community, firing sporadically. The statement said the attackers abducted a woman along the road during the invasion. However, police teams swiftly mobilised to the area, engaged the assailants in a gun duel, and successfully repelled the attack, forcing the suspects to flee. Kwara: They operated freely for 10 hours – Woro village head on bandits attack

Head of Woro Village, Umar Salihu, has claimed that the lack of adequate security gave the bandits opportunity to operate freely for about 10 hours. He said the attackers who killed over 200 people in the community earlier sent a letter claiming they were coming to preach. Salihu said the bandits sent the letter to him on January 10th, 2026 and against the expectations of the villagers, they carried out their raid for over 10 hours while killing several people. The Lagos State Government has sealed Ladipo Spare Parts Market along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) over alleged repeated environmental infractions. Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the development in a post shared on X on Sunday. He wrote, “Lagos State government, this morning, sealed Ladipo Spare Parts Market along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) over repeated environmental infractions; indiscriminate refuse disposal on the median/highway and illegal street trading. #ZeroToleranceLagos.” The popular spare parts hub in Mushin was shut as part of the state’s ongoing enforcement drive to ensure compliance with environmental laws and discourage street trading and improper waste disposal.
