Residents of Apado village in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State have reportedly been thrown into panic following the abduction of two residents by suspected armed gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to information gathered from local sources, the gunmen reportedly invaded the community late Tuesday night and abducted a man and a woman from the village before fleeing the area.
One of the victims was identified as Adebayo Samuel Salami, a retired civil servant and former headmaster who served under the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB). He is also reportedly a member of the Ilorin East Education Authority.
The second victim was identified as Mrs. Arolu Opeyemi, who was reportedly abducted alongside Salami during the attack.
A source familiar with the incident told our correspondent that the gunmen entered the village late at night and took the two victims away. The source said residents were left frightened following the incident.
“The gunmen entered the village late at night and kidnapped two people — a man and a woman. The man is Adebayo Samuel Salami, a retired civil servant, while the woman is Mrs. Arolu Opeyemi,” the source said.
The identities of the abductors and their whereabouts remain unknown as of the time of filing this report.
The incident has renewed concerns over the security of rural communities in parts of Kwara State, particularly communities located away from major urban centres.
Efforts are ongoing to establish further details about the incident, including whether security agencies have launched a search operation for the victims.
