Adanla Community Denies Accusing Govt, Security Agencies Over Kidnap Victims

 

The Adanla community in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State has refuted claims that it accused the government and security agencies of abandoning nine kidnap victims despite the payment of a ₦40 million ransom.

In a statement issued on March 6, 2026, the Elerin-in-Council and the National Executive of the Adanla Community Development Association (ACDA) described a report published by Afrika Eyes as misleading and not a true reflection of the position of the community.

The community clarified that at no point did it insinuate that the government or security agencies abandoned them during efforts to secure the release of the victims who were abducted on December 26 last year. It further stated that no individual was authorized to speak on behalf of the community in that regard.

According to the statement, the community acknowledged the continuous efforts of government authorities and security operatives in handling the situation, which eventually led to the safe rescue of the nine victims without injury.

The leadership of the community noted that security matters are highly sensitive and often cannot be openly discussed, stressing that the silence of the government on certain issues should not be misinterpreted as negligence or lack of action.

The community also expressed appreciation to the government at the local, state, and federal levels, as well as security agencies, for their roles in ensuring the safe release of the victims and maintaining the security of citizens across Kwara State.

Adanla leaders further extended gratitude to neighboring communities, associations, and individuals who supported them during the difficult period, praying that God rewards their kindness.

They also urged media organizations to verify information with appropriate authorities before publication in order to avoid sensational reports that could mislead the public.

The statement was jointly signed by the Elerin of Adanla-Irese, Oba (Dr.) David S.O. Oyerinola Adedunmoye, and the National President of the Adanla Community Development Association (ACDA), Elder Philip O. Adigun.
