In a major political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Senator representing Kwara North Senatorial District, Sadiq Suleiman Umar, has officially declared his preparedness to contest for the Office of Governor of Kwara State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The declaration was made during his appearance on Politics Tonight, a flagship political programme on TVC News, where he addressed critical issues bordering on politics, and security in Kwara State as well as electoral reforms in Nigeria.
While fielding questions on the security situation in Kwara State, particularly in Kwara North Senatorial District, Senator Sadiq provided detailed insights into the ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity and restore peace to the region.
He acknowledged the challenges experienced by the People who he agreed are the worst hit by these occurrences but commended the collaborative interventions of the Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq led Kwara State Government and the Federal Government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, working closely with security agencies and host communities to restore peace and stability. According to him, ongoing improved coordination, intelligence sharing, and grassroots engagement will produce positive outcomes across affected communities.
He called for sustained cooperation among stakeholders and urged citizens to remain hopeful and supportive of lawful efforts aimed at ending insecurity across Kwara North and the state at large.
Senator Sadiq also responded to questions regarding the recently amended Electoral Act passed by the National Assembly and assented to by Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.
He reassured Nigerians that the National Assembly acted in the overall interest of the people, emphasizing that the amendments were designed to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral framework, enhance transparency, and improve the credibility of the democratic process.
According to him, lawmakers remain committed to ensuring that the 2027 general elections are free, fair, and credible.
Speaking on his governorship ambition, Senator Sadiq maintained that he possesses the requisite experience, exposure, and competence required to govern Kwara State effectively, drawing from his background in both the private and public sectors.
He stressed that the time is ripe for Kwara North to produce the Governor of the state in the interest of fairness, equity, and balanced development across the three Senatorial Districts.
Addressing the political outlook for 2027, Senator Sadiq expressed strong confidence in the dominance and grassroots acceptance of the APC across Kwara North, Kwara Central, and Kwara South.
He dismissed concerns about opposition strategies, insisting that the APC remains better positioned to secure victory in the forthcoming general elections based on its structure, popularity, and performance record in the last 7 years.
