Engr. Femi Sanni Araba formally announced his candidacy for the 2027 Kwara State governorship election on Thursday, 23 April 2026, drawing enthusiastic cheers from supporters as he pledged to build upon and further strengthen the achievements of the current governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Speaking in Omu-Aran, a prominent town in Irepodun Local Government Area, after months of extensive consultations extending across Kwara North, Central, and South Senatorial districts, the APC chieftain emphasized that his bid is grounded in principles of “competence, unity, and people-centred governance.” As the Chairman of the Stafolga Group conglomerate and owner of Flow FM 92.7, Sanni described himself as a bridge-builder and reform advocate, committed to guiding Kwara from its current phase of “ongoing transformation” into a period of “accelerated development,” characterized by strategic investments in key sectors.
Sanni praised Governor AbdulRazaq’s significant investments in infrastructure, youth empowerment programs, and institutional reforms, promising not only to continue these initiatives but also to expand and enhance them. His key campaign proposal is to reposition Kwara as “Nigeria’s Premier Conference Hub,” aiming to diversify the state’s traditionally civil service-driven economy into a more vibrant, service-oriented, and tourism-friendly sector.
He also expressed support for the Governor’s stance on maintaining an open and fair electoral process, noting that AbdulRazaq “has no anointed candidate” and stressing that broad-based consultation and stakeholder engagement are essential to fielding “a leader truly deserving of Kwara’s trust and future.”
The declaration was further reinforced by recent endorsements, including endorsements from prominent Kwara entertainers. At an event held at the O2 Arena last week, Kwara Entertainers publicly described Sanni as the “Best Bet for 2027.” Veteran actor Pa Ajirebi passionately stated: “I have never supported a loser in my life. The Araba 2027 ambition is another success story on the way.”
A Fellow of both the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers and the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Sanni was recently shortlisted for national engineering honours by Kwara SWAN during its tribute lecture honoring Governor AbdulRazaq’s developmental achievements. He also publicly praised the Governor’s security reforms, especially efforts to address insecurity in Kwara North, highlighting his commitment to peace and stability.
Sanni concluded his announcement with the slogan “Kwara tiwa ni,” emphasizing youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and economic growth as core priorities ahead of the 2027 elections.
