A massive political rally held on Tuesday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, has amplified calls for the governorship ticket of the state to be zoned to Kwara North ahead of the 2027 general elections, alongside renewed support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The rally, which took place at the Metropolitan Square, Asa Dam, drew a large crowd of party faithful, stakeholders, traditional leaders, and supporters from across the state. The event, covered by The Crown Online TV, reflected growing political momentum and heightened consultations as the next election cycle approaches.
Speakers at the gathering stressed the importance of equity, fairness, and justice in the distribution of political power in Kwara State. They argued that it is time for Kwara North Senatorial District to produce the next governor, noting that the region has long been underrepresented in the state’s top leadership despite its electoral contributions.
The stakeholders collectively appealed to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both the state and national levels to consider zoning the party’s governorship ticket to Kwara North, insisting that such a move would promote inclusiveness and strengthen unity across the state.
Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers from the district, the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Muhammed Kudu Kawu, described the agitation as a legitimate and longstanding aspiration of the people of Kwara North. He noted that the district has consistently demonstrated loyalty and unity during elections, playing a crucial role in the successes recorded by the ruling party over the years.
According to the royal father, granting Kwara North the opportunity to produce the next governor would not only address issues of marginalization but also reinforce Kwara State’s identity as the “State of Harmony.” He further appealed to political stakeholders in Kwara Central and Kwara South to support the demand in the interest of fairness and collective progress.
The rally also featured the presence of prominent gubernatorial aspirants from Kwara North, including Mohammed Omar Bio, Alhaji Tajudeen Abdulkadir Audu (Makama Lafiagi), Sadiq Suleiman Umar, and Salihu Yakubu Danladi. The aspirants presented a united front, signaling cohesion within the district and a shared commitment to actualizing the quest for power shift.
Observers say the development marks a significant step in the political realignments ahead of 2027, with Kwara North’s agitation gaining increased visibility and support among party stakeholders.
