The race for the House of Representatives seat representing Ilorin East/South Federal Constituency gathered momentum on Sunday as Kwara State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, formally declared his intention to contest on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The declaration, held at MM event center in Ilorin, the State capital.
The event attracted a large and diverse audience, including party stakeholders, traditional rulers, community leaders, artisans, and members of transport unions. The event also witnessed strong mobilisation from prominent support groups, reflecting growing political alignment within the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Addressing the gathering, Olododo described his ambition as a collective aspiration rather than a personal pursuit, positioning his candidacy as representative of a new generation of leadership. He cited his experience across the private sector and public service—particularly in infrastructure and social welfare—as critical to his preparedness for legislative responsibilities.
“I understand how government systems work and where interventions are needed. My goal is to translate representation into tangible outcomes for communities,” he said.
Meanwhile the aspirant also acknowledged the leadership of Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, crediting his administration for fostering an enabling environment for young leaders and strengthening the state’s voice at the national level.
Olododo outlined a number of policy commitments, including plans to establish a fully operational constituency office within 90 days of assuming office, aimed at enhancing legislative engagement and service delivery. He pledged to institutionalise regular consultations and feedback mechanisms with constituents.
Stressing on economic development, he noted the gap between federal intervention programmes—such as those of the Bank of Industry, NIRSAL, and the Central Bank of Nigeria—and grassroots beneficiaries. He promised to facilitate access for local entrepreneurs and farmers, positioning himself as a link between federal opportunities and local needs.
Highlighting the demographic composition of the constituency, Olododo emphasised youth-focused policies, particularly in digital innovation, remote work, and technical skills development. He expressed readiness to leverage existing state-backed initiatives to expand opportunities for residents.
“What we have is a generation already innovating and solving problems. My role is to create the legislative support that connects them to bigger platforms,” he added.
Futhermore, the Stakeholders at event commended the aspirant’s performance in the Ministry of Works, describing him as a key contributor to ongoing infrastructure development in the state. They also reiterated support for his candidacy, citing his track record and alignment with broader party objectives at both state and federal levels.
He however embarked on a road walk to his residence after declaring his bid for the House of Representatives seat.
