{Op-Ed}:SEVEN YEARS, SEVEN FOOTPRINTS - By Hon. Sulaimon Lekan Gadaff

Today marks seven years since His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, took the oath of office as Governor of Kwara State.

Leadership is not measured by the number of years spent in office, but by the footprints left behind for generations to follow.

As Kwarans reflect on the journey since May 29, 2019, seven enduring footprints stand out:

1. INFRASTRUCTURE THAT CONNECTS PEOPLE AND PROSPERITY

Roads, bridges, urban renewal projects, and rural connectivity initiatives have brought communities closer together and opened new economic opportunities. Long after this administration, these roads will continue to carry commerce, connect families, and drive development across Kwara State. 

2. EDUCATIONAL REFORMS THAT PREPARE THE NEXT GENERATION

Through initiatives such as KwaraLEARN, massive school renovations, classroom construction, teacher recruitment, and investments in educational technology, a foundation has been laid for a generation that will compete confidently in a rapidly changing world. The greatest beneficiaries may be children who are yet to enter school today. 

3. SOCIAL INVESTMENTS THAT RESTORE HUMAN DIGNITY

Through social intervention programmes, support for vulnerable citizens, healthcare reforms, and welfare initiatives, government has increasingly become a source of support for ordinary people. The true value of governance is measured by how it touches lives, especially the most vulnerable among us. 

4. A GOVERNANCE CULTURE BUILT ON TRANSPARENCY AND INSTITUTIONAL STRENGTH

Strong institutions outlive individuals. By promoting accountability, fiscal discipline, reforms, and a governance model that places public interest above personal interest, a stronger foundation has been built for future administrations to inherit and improve upon. 

5. YOUTH INCLUSION THAT CREATES OPPORTUNITY

One of the defining features of this administration has been opening doors for younger generations through appointments, innovation initiatives, entrepreneurship programmes, skills development, and merit-based opportunities. The leaders of tomorrow are already gaining experience today.

6. WOMEN EMPOWERMENT THAT EXPANDS PARTICIPATION

History will remember this era as one in which women gained greater visibility and representation in governance. By creating space for women to contribute meaningfully to leadership and decision-making, the administration has strengthened the principle that development thrives when everyone has a seat at the table. 

7. PEACE, STABILITY, AND RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP

Perhaps the most enduring footprint is the atmosphere of relative peace and stability that has enabled progress across sectors. Development flourishes where peace exists, and future generations will appreciate the value of a government that prioritized unity, dialogue, and stability as foundations for growth. 

Seven years later, these footprints are not merely projects or policies; they are building blocks for the Kwara of tomorrow.

Years from now, when the story of modern Kwara is told, history will not simply remember that Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq served as Governor. It will remember the foundations laid, the institutions strengthened, the opportunities created, and the lives touched.

Congratulations to His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, on seven years of service, sacrifice, and stewardship of our beloved Kwara State.
