Nigerians over the past few years have grossly experienced a high level of abduction across all age ranges in the country. While this has often occurred majorly around the core northern region of the country, where it is being managed by the government through its military forces, we are beginning to experience a wider network of kidnapping operators, spreading towards the North central region and down to the south western states.
Unfortunately, there are high speculations and calculations that has traced this recurring pattern of this criminal activities to some political individuals who leverage on the opportunity to exploit the outcome to make a huge political statement that gradually fuels a narrative which would build/lead to form a revolution. A dangerous game plays at its peak where the comfort and lives of the citizens are the price you demand from the same people you wish to govern some day. It is indeed an interesting speculation, tho not confirmed, but cannot be ignored.
Sadly, the common man on the street who just want to feed himself and family ends up with bigot terrorist with political godfathers as war lord, using the kidnapped victim as a negotiating tool with the government, setting unrealistic demand for huge amount of money and demanding the release of some notorious terrorist in government captive. A demand too sophisticated to be met by a serious government that understands the importance and dynamics of national security.
More importantly, a question to ask. Why do they always demand such a huge amount of money, “what do they intend doing with this huge sum of money”. Is money really the problem? Why haven’t they stopped this unlawful garrison business after receiving lots of ransom. Many people have been kidnapped over the years, but little money was raised, which is not enough for their target. These sets of blood thirsty mediocres have a bigger ambition in acquiring more weapons for their evil to continue to perpetrate, and it is clear the citizens do not have the resources. Only the government and some of its officials can pay that huge amount of money that would be enough to purchase more arms and weapons to further strengthen their arsenal. The game is now to hold the government to ransom through its dear citizens.
Unfortunately, the government is currently in a very difficult situation where force cannot be applied, especially with forty-two kids amongst them. Unfortunately, financial negotiation as well as a direct substitute of high level terrorist in exchange for the kids won’t be considered. At this critical stage, should a non kinetic approach be considered, Which would mean that the government is indirectly funding terrorist. No government wants to be in such a devastating situation.
It is also important to note that this same script has been played before under a former president just to tactically get the citizens emotional and turn against the government of the day. This tactical approach gained a huge momentum and yielded a great result that saw him out of office.
Moreso, it is important to critically study and analyse the pattern of mass abduction activities that occur, especially at a time when the general election is close by. It is important to read in between lines by carefully studying the pattern not because you are supporting the government but because you are a Nigerian, this country belongs to you and we can not be used to settle political scores. It is also important to understand that the current administration has only eight years at most in office, but this terrorist will not stop holding the Nigerian government to ransom irrespective of who the president is.
To all patriotic Nigerian, it is high time we put on our thinking cap, support the government, and be smart about our reckless decision in helping terrorist trends on social media. It is also our due responsibility to criticize the government when needed but now the government needs its citizens more than ever to be loyal and highly supportive because we have a common enemy and we have to be United to defeat terrorism and banditry.
