The Oyo State Police Command has arrested five suspected armed robbers and recovered firearms, ammunition, and other incriminating items during an intelligence-led operation in Gbeku Area, Olodo, Egbeda Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects include Ahmed Nafiu (43), Olukunmi Olaniyi (36), Femi Odeyinde (53), Jelili Akinade (50), and Muhideen Adio (27). According to the police, the arrests were made after operatives acted on credible intelligence and stormed a suspected criminal hideout in the area.
Recovered exhibits include one pump-action gun, one cut-to-size gun, eight live cartridges, a bullet-proof vest, two bottles of suspected charm-based substances, and assorted charms.
The Command said the suspects are believed to be part of a criminal syndicate and are currently in custody while discreet investigations continue to identify and apprehend other fleeing members.
“The suspects are currently in police custody while discreet investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full extent of their involvement in criminal activities and to apprehend other members of the syndicate who may still be at large,” the Command stated.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustained intelligence-led operations against armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping, and other violent crimes, urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
