VCRU: Police Raid Criminal Hideouts in Ijagbo, Arrest Alleged Cult Leader and Gang Members

The Kwara State Police Command has recorded another significant breakthrough in its fight against cultism and violent crime with the arrest of four suspected members of a notorious cult group in Ijagbo, Oyun Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects were apprehended during a coordinated operation carried out by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected cultists and violent criminals operating within the community.

According to the Police, the operation, which took place on Thursday, June 11, 2026, led to the arrest of Idowu Akorede of Ijagbo, who was identified as the alleged Capon (leader) of the outlawed Eiye Confraternity. Three other suspected members of the group were also arrested during follow-up operations.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are allegedly involved in cult-related activities, robbery, and other violent crimes. The gang has also been linked to several incidents in which residents were reportedly attacked and dispossessed of their valuables in broad daylight, creating fear and insecurity within the area.

The Command disclosed that the suspects attempted to resist arrest by attacking operatives with broken bottles in a bid to escape. However, the officers demonstrated professionalism and tactical superiority, successfully subduing and arresting the suspects without sustaining any injuries.

The arrested suspects have since been transferred to Ilorin and are currently in police custody as investigations continue. The Police also stated that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal network.

Commending the operatives for their courage and dedication, the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, reaffirmed the Command's commitment to tackling all forms of criminality and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and useful information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts aimed at maintaining peace and public safety.
