The Coalition of Students and Youth for Danladi 2027 (C-SYD 2027) has been formally unveiled in Kwara State, with the group declaring its support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Salihu Danladi, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The coalition made its position known during its Official Unveiling and World Press Conference, held in Ilorin under the theme, “Unity Beyond Districts.”
Speaking at the event, the Convener of C-SYD 2027, Hon. Hassan Muhammed Hawal, said the coalition comprises students, youths, young professionals, grassroots volunteers and other Kwarans who support greater youth participation and inclusive political engagement.
Hawal, who is also a representative of the Kwara Central Senatorial District in the Nigerian Youth Parliament, said the coalition plans to establish structures across the state’s 16 Local Government Areas, with further engagement at ward and community levels.
According to him, C-SYD 2027 will focus on grassroots mobilisation, civic awareness, campus engagements, community outreach and political education, particularly among young people who are not traditionally active in political organisations.
He said the coalition intends to engage students, young professionals, artisans, entrepreneurs, first-time voters and other young Kwarans as part of its activities ahead of the 2027 election.
Speaking on the coalition’s support for Danladi-Salihu, Hawal cited his legislative experience, grassroots engagement and current position as Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly.
Danladi-Salihu emerged as the APC’s governorship candidate after winning the party’s governorship primary conducted across the state in May 2026. The party subsequently ratified the result and presented his nomination form ahead of the INEC process.
The coalition also highlighted Danladi-Salihu’s representation of Ilesha/Gwanara Constituency and his experience in the Kwara State House of Assembly.
Hawal said C-SYD 2027’s support was based on its assessment of Danladi-Salihu’s leadership experience, legislative exposure and connection with grassroots communities.
He also referenced the coalition’s assessment of activities under Danladi-Salihu’s leadership of the House of Assembly, including legislative proceedings and constituency-related interventions.
On the theme, “Unity Beyond Districts,” Hawal called for greater political engagement across Kwara North, Kwara Central and Kwara South, stressing the need for young people to see the state as one political community.
“Kwara North is Kwara, Central is Kwara, same as South,”
He said political participation should not be restricted by senatorial district considerations.
Hawal also emphasised that C-SYD 2027 would not operate as a platform for hostility towards political opponents, urging young people to participate peacefully and respect differing political opinions.
“Politics is a contest of ideas and choices. People will disagree, people will support different candidates, and people will hold different political opinions,” he said.
He called on young Kwarans to participate responsibly in the democratic process and avoid allowing political differences to lead to hatred or violence.
The coalition said it would commence further engagements across the state’s 16 Local Government Areas as it develops its grassroots structure ahead of the 2027 elections.
