As you celebrate your special day today, I am delighted to share with the world a little about the man you are. We started as strangers, became friends, and today you are a brother to me. As you mark a new year, I want to celebrate the rare qualities you embody.
FROM STRANGERS TO FRIENDS
Years ago, my desire to join the league of men who defend our nation against external threats and help maintain peace in our society through service, patriotism and dedication led me to you. Being the good man you have always been, your colleague (Lieut. Commander Tolorun Samuel) gave me your contact because he knew you are passionate about building young people and helping their aspirations come true.
I still remember how I bombarded you with all kinds of questions then, yet you patiently answered every one of them even though we had never met.
That single gesture convinced me you were someone worth walking with. Your warm heart showed me immediately that you are a man of many great parts. Such attributes are rare.
As days went by, our bond kept growing until we moved from being strangers to becoming not just acquaintances, but uncommon friends.
BEYOND FRIENDSHIP: THE LOVE OF A BROTHER
Days turned to weeks, weeks to months, and months to years, but one thing kept increasing - our brotherly love, affection and support. On many occasions, you have proven that you are not just someone I know, but a brother in a million. Your generosity is top tier and your love is truly that of a brother. I cannot differentiate you from my blood brothers.
As I write this, my heart keeps recalling all your uncommon gestures, and prayers keep flowing from within. What started as me seeking clarification from you has become a lifetime journey.
I cherish your selflessness, humility and courage. As a man of valour, your dedication to duty is never in doubt. You are an exceptional defender with uncommon zeal. May God continue to protect you.
ONE DAY TOO MANY
Permit me to remind you, sir, that I will never forget the day you married your heartthrob. I was in high spirits and eager to celebrate that special day with you, but I could not make it because it was the same day I wrote my final paper as an OND student. I know you understood, but I will always remember that day as one day too many that I missed.
THIS YEAR'S BIRTHDAY AND MY RESOLVE
This year again, circumstances will not allow me to be there physically to celebrate with you, but I am celebrating you right here with all my heart. As someone who has done so much for me, I have in my little way found a means to make this year's celebration memorable.
I know nothing I do can replace my presence, but I am glad you understand. As you add a new year, God will add to you in every important area of your life. He will protect, provide, promote and uplift you.
By God's grace, by next year, I will ensure I am available to celebrate your birthday with you in person. And I know we are not stopping at birthdays. I will celebrate you for the many greater things the Lord will do for you.
Happy birthday, sir. Cheers to many better years ahead. In this new year and in the years to come, I look forward to a more productive relationship with you.
