A suspected militia leader, Mahmoud Adam, who has been linked to attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, has reportedly been arrested in Plateau State.
The alleged arrest was reported by the US-based news platform, Daily Caller, in an exclusive report published on Friday.
According to the report, Adam, a resident of Plateau State, was allegedly a secret leader of the Fulani Ethnic Militia (FEM), an organisation the report linked to violence in parts of the Middle Belt.
The publication quoted a former US intelligence officer with expertise in Islamist terrorism as confirming Adam’s arrest.
The report further alleged that photographs obtained from a whistleblower showed Adam meeting Nigerian military leaders and receiving what were described as high-value gifts. It also claimed that a serving senator had previously intervened to secure his release from custody.
According to the report, the operation leading to Adam’s arrest was conducted on September 12 at his compound in Plateau State, where he was reportedly serving as a prominent Fulani community leader.
The allegations, including Adam’s purported leadership role and links to attacks, remain claims attributed to the publication and its sources.
