APC Governorship Race: Sadiq Umar Not Stepping Down, Says Media Team

A report alleging that Senator Suleiman Sadiq Umar has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship race in Kwara State has been dismissed by his media team as false and misleading.

The claim, which was attributed to a publication by Confidence News Nigeria, was described as unverified and not originating from the Senator’s camp. According to the statement released on May 4, 2026, the report should be regarded as a fabrication that does not reflect the true situation.

The media team emphasized that there has been no withdrawal, pause, or reconsideration of Senator Umar’s ambition. They reaffirmed that he remains fully committed to the race and actively engaged in campaign activities across the state.

Citing recent events, the statement noted the Senator’s public declaration, which was attended by a large number of supporters, as well as his visible participation at the Kwara North Mega Rally in Ilorin, as clear indications of his continued involvement.

It further stressed that his campaign structure remains intact, with coordinated political engagement ongoing in all 16 local government areas of the state. The team added that at no time was any intention to withdraw communicated to party stakeholders, supporters, or any credible media platform.

Reaffirming his stance, the statement concluded that Senator Suleiman Sadiq Umar remains focused on his ambition and committed to building a united Kwara that works for all residents.
