The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced that it will now conduct recruitment exercises annually, replacing its previous irregular recruitment pattern.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Service's headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to Adeniyi, the new recruitment policy is aimed at establishing a predictable manpower planning system that will enable the Service to promptly replace retiring officers while providing young Nigerians with regular opportunities to join the organisation.
He explained that the Service has moved away from the old recruitment model, under which applicants often had to wait several years before another exercise was conducted.
The Comptroller-General said the new approach would make recruitment a continuous and structured process, with the 2026 recruitment exercise scheduled to commence later this year.
He added that the Nigeria Customs Service has strengthened its recruitment systems, screening framework and verification processes to ensure future exercises are conducted more efficiently and transparently.
"The Nigeria Customs Service is moving to an annual recruitment cycle. Recruitment will no longer be an occasional event undertaken every several years. It will be a standing, predictable, yearly process.
"The 2026 Recruitment Exercise will open later this year, and it is my firm intention that it will be completed within a single calendar year, from advertisement to the release of the final list," Adeniyi said.
The annual recruitment initiative is expected to improve workforce planning within the Service while creating more consistent employment opportunities for qualified Nigerians seeking careers in the Nigeria Customs Service.
