The mainstream All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has noted the recent press statement issued by the group identifying itself as the “Kwara APC G15 Supporters” regarding the postponement of its planned rally.
Contrary to the narrative being circulated, it is evident that the proposed gathering failed to generate the anticipated support among party members across the state. The decision to postpone the event appears to have been influenced more by the realities on the ground than by the reasons advanced in the group’s statement.
For the benefit of party members and the general public, it is necessary to set the record straight.
Democracy Has Spoken
The G15 group claims to be defending internal democracy. However, the Kwara APC primary elections were conducted under the supervision of officials from the APC National Headquarters, in accordance with the party’s procedures. The emergence of the party’s candidates, including Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, reflected the outcome of that democratic process.
Participation in any democratic contest necessarily includes accepting its outcome. Attempts to discredit the exercise after participating in it undermine the very democratic principles the group now claims to defend.
Grassroots Support Remains with the Mainstream APC
The massive turnout at the #KwaraNdupe rally, organised to appreciate Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the national and state leadership of the APC for supporting the party’s candidates, demonstrated where the overwhelming majority of APC members stand.
Thousands of party faithful, including youths, women, elders, and other stakeholders, participated voluntarily in the gathering. Describing such a large cross-section of party supporters in derogatory terms amounts to dismissing the genuine convictions of grassroots members across the state.
Security Allegations Should Not Be Politicised
The allegations portraying Kwara State as a “terrorised state” are both unfortunate and misleading.
Security challenges remain a national concern requiring collective efforts rather than political sensationalism. Many residents acknowledge that Kwara continues to rank among Nigeria’s relatively peaceful states while the government continues to invest in security, infrastructure, and economic development.
Using security-related claims as a political weapon following the outcome of a party primary does little to advance constructive political engagement.
Allegations of Misuse of Local Government Funds Are Unfounded
The claim that local government funds were deployed to finance the solidarity rally is entirely without evidence.
The present administration has consistently maintained that local government resources are dedicated to grassroots development, including infrastructure, healthcare, education, and rural projects. The solidarity rally reflected the voluntary commitment and financial support of party members and stakeholders who remain confident in the direction of the APC in Kwara State.
The Way Forward
The events of recent days have demonstrated that the overwhelming majority of APC members in Kwara remain united behind Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the party’s duly nominated candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political disagreements are inevitable in every democracy. However, such disagreements should be pursued within the framework of the party’s constitution and democratic processes rather than through attempts to delegitimise outcomes that have already been determined by party members.
The APC in Kwara State remains focused on consolidating its achievements, strengthening party unity, and preparing for future electoral victories.
